Sonora Portraits - Abbie

Sonora, CA

February 7th, 2016

Super bowl is all about family, friends, football, laughter, food, and drinks. The men were in watching the Super Bowl while most the women were either in the kitchen preparing the BIG meal or outside enjoying the beautiful day. You could hear the cheers in the background from the team scoring a touchdown; however, there was a creative explosion happening in my head that I had to release. Abbie and I were discussing her beautiful golden locks and I just had to capture some images that would show off her gorgeousness! There is nothing better than Sonora Portraits, a gorgeous model, and beautiful weather.

Bonnie was the hair and makeup artist, while Abbie was my model.  Here are a few images of what we created:

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. ~Oprah Winfrey

2016 Bessie Young Photography

Starting off a new year brings hope, dreams, and inspiration. With the new year many of us create new years resolutions and plan to stick with them throughout the year; however, by the end of May most people drop their new years resolution goals and forget about the hopes that the new year brought in. We get so involved in the day to day grind that we lose sight of our dreams.

There are certain tools that we can use and/or create to helps us stay on track and not forget our hopes and dreams to help us not lose our inspiration and motivation. They call them vision boards. These boards can also be know as dream boards or inspiration boards. It doesn't matter what you call them, these boards help put your goals into a picture form. Pictures are powerful! They speak to us unlike words ever could.

What you need:

  • Cork board (you can use a poster board or some sort of canvas.)
  • Old magazines
  • Scissors, glue, and tape
  • Markers ( or paint whichever you prefer)
  • A photo of yourself that you love

Step 1: Make some time to really think about your goals

Ideas:

  • Fitness
  • Home Life
  • Relationships
  • School
  • Sports
  • Activities
  • Community service
  • Work
  • Future Goals

Pick a few different areas in your life. Once you narrow it down, create 1-2 goals in each area. These goals should be measurable whether it be 2 community service events, losing 5 pounds, etc. This way you know when you have achieved that goal.

Step 2: Gather all the materials and make a relaxing creative space. Light some candles, put on some music, make yourself a nice cup of hot coffee, pray over what you want your life to be.

Step 3: Cut out images from your magazines that represent the life you want to live.

  • These images need to be inspiring. Something that you can look at and think "Yes! I want that, I will get that!" Something that keeps you motivated.Impossible Bessie Young Photography

Step 4: Place the photo of yourself in the middle of the board

  • This is completely optional; however, it will help you visualize yourself with your goals.

Step 5: Pin your magazine images onto your board

  • You can pin, tape, or glue. Let your creativity flow!

Step 6: Use markers or paint to write your personal mantra, favorite quotes, or scriptures onto your board.

Step 7: Find a partner

  • Find someone that you are comfortable sharing your goals with. This will help you stay accountable.

Step 8: Display your board somewhere you will see it everyday.

  • Hang it on your wall, put in on your counter, or place it in your closet. Anywhere that you go at least once throughout the day.

The wonderful thing about vision boards is they are yours. There is no right or wrong way to do it. You can have multiple goals or one big goal. Whatever you want. There is NO wrong way to do it.

This will be the first year that I try to create a vision board. Try along with me and let me know how it goes. I would love to see your progress! Create a board, post it on social media and tag me @bessieyoungphotography. You can also use the hashtag #visionboard2016 or #bessieyoungphotography2016visionboards

I am looking forward to seeing your boards! Happy 2016!

2015 Year in Review

California Photographer

Man has the year flown by! I am in absolute aw with it being December 31st. As you all know, I started my photography business this year. It has been quite a wild ride, and I am so thankful and blessed to be able to look back and see how far I have come. Thank you all for the support and encouragement throughout the year!

I decided that I would start a tradition of posting an end of the year highlight reel. I thought it would be fun to show you all various photos that I have taken throughout the year with the fantastic families, babies, high school seniors, couples, and more!

This tradition will also help me reflect on all that I have accomplished. Where I came from and where I am going. I am a creative. It is what I do so putting this together was super fun! As I was creating this slideshow I realized that I produced a pretty cool highlight reel. I added a couple quotes that I love and various behind the scenes photos of different photo shoots.

Here is what transpired…

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything."
Aaron Siskind

I am absolutely in love with the boho floral headband trend which is what inspired this portrait session. The session took place on a late September evening, in Woodward Park, when the lighting was absolutely gorgeous. I am so incredibly excited with how these pictures turned out!

Earlier in the day I was able to find this beautiful fall bouquet that I was able to turn into a boho floral headband. The bouquet was found at Trader Joe's and cost under $10. I used a thick craft wire for the frame and green floral tape to attach the flowers onto the base. I think it turned out fantastic for a Fall portrait session. Nayeli Vargas wore the floral headband with beauty and grace.

Bianca's Senior Portraits

Woodward Park

“The best way out is always through.”

Robert Frost

High school can be long, tough, and grueling; however, once we get though it we chuckle as we look back on the days and wonder 'why was that so hard?' When looking back we remember the good days of playing sports, hanging out with friends, passing notes in Spanish, and being carefree. Becoming a senior is a special kind of awesome. We are on the top of the world. Not knowing what is ahead of us, but somehow being excited beyond all belief. Senior portraits are one of those defining moments during our senior year. It reminds us that high school will soon be only a memory, and a memory we need to capture with photographs.

Bianca's senior portraits were taken at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA. The day was hot, the grass was dry, and the model was absolutely stunning.

Woodward Park Senior Portriats

We traveled throughout the park to three different locations with three different outfits. The first was at a beautiful bridge with the pond in the background. The sun started to go down which helped keep the day a little cooler. The second spot was in a wooded area filled with beautiful trees. For the third spot we went to the northerly side of the park to be around the oak trees and the creek.
