Sonora Family Portraits

The Jasmer's

I am beyond thankful to be able to be a photographer and take photos of beautiful families; however, I am even more thankful to be able to call this family mine.

As you all know I have three sisters. This is my oldest sister and her gorgeous family. It is one of the funnest things to take pictures of them all, document their little moments, capture the love between them all, and watch my nieces and nephews grow.

Sonora Family Portraits - Sonora Photographer Bessie Young - Family of 6 posing idea

Each and every person in this gorgeous family is such a beautiful soul on the inside and out. They are full of fun, laughter, and love. They are there for anyone in need, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. They love beyond measure and treat everyone with the upmost respect.

I started taking their family portraits a few years ago, prior to me starting my photography business. This family was the very first family that I ever took portraits of. It is so much fun to see the changes in their little faces, as well as see the changes in my photography.

I am beyond lucky to call this family part of my big family.

Wishing you nothing but the best!

This family is truly gorgeous on the inside and out. Everything about them is amazing. They are full of laughter and love. Their smiles are contagious.

I was so excited when Anne asked me to take her family portraits. You see, I have known Anne and Robbie for quite some time now and I was ecstatic. It has been wonderful watching her little ones grow into beautiful people and it was a true honor to be able to document this moment in time for their gorgeous family.

Everything about this family is amazing. Their smiles, their eyes, their love, their laughter, their personality.

This Sonora Fall Family Portrait Session was just perfect. We started off the session at just the right time during golden hour and ended the session right before the sun went down. This allowed us to get the perfect golden sun on the yellow grass, along with time to catch the sunset colors.

It is one of my favorite things when my families are up to have a little fun. We did a few posed images, and then we did a few fun more lifestyle images.

The most important thing in the world is family and love
— John Wooden

The back country road in the Sonora Foothills made fore the absolute perfect fall family session. It had all the feels of goodness and fall.

The oak leaves were just falling from the trees adding a gorgeous golden layer to the ground. The old country road made for a beautiful contrast of colors, and the Kerr's are fun, adventurous, and up for anything! It was a dream.

Thank you so much Anne and Robbie for allowing me to be your photographer this year.

I hope you all enjoyed this blog. If you did, make sure to subscribe to my newsletter.

Wishing you nothing but beautiful days,

Bessie

Pet Portraits | Yota the Boston Terrier | My Right Hand Gal

Yota the Boston Terrier

Meet my right hand gal... This is Yota. Yes with a T.

Yota is a 7 year old Boston Terrier. I got her when she was 12 weeks old and she has been by my side ever since. We pretty much go everywhere together, except for when my adventures take me on a plane.

I grew up always having animals around. We had dogs, horses, cats, chickens, mice, hamsters, fish, bunnies, and the list goes on. When I moved out to go to school my home was empty. It was a strange feeling to not have something by my side.

Pet Portraits | Yota the Boston Terrier Photographed by Bessie Young Photography

It never felt right not having a dog by my side. I grew up with my old dog Maybel and she went everywhere with me for 13 years. My entire life, I was always with a dog, so not having one just wasn't working for me. So, one day, I made the decision that I just had to have a dog. No questions asked.

I have always been a big dog person, and I reaaallllyyyyy wanted a Grate Dane. I started researching various big dogs and there were so many to choose from. Now, I live in a small 700 square foot apartment and I began to wonder how that would work... having a "horse" in my living room. Honestly, I couldn't imagine anything other than a big dog. I haven never liked small dogs. They just aren't my thing.

So.... the search was on. What kind of small dog could I get, that wasn't soooo small, that didn't bark all the time, and would be something that I enjoyed? You see, ultimately I just wanted a companion. Well, my search lead me to Boston Terriers. Everything about a Boston was exactly what I wanted. They are meant to be companion dogs, they have energy but not too much energy, they aren't too small, and they aren't too big.

To make a long story short, I ended up with Yota. She was the first Boston Terrier I went to look at, and I just couldn't say no. I had to have her. I took her home in November of 2011 and she has been by my side ever since. I took her to doggy training classes (really just to force myself to take the time to train her), and the rest is history.

Yota is seriously everything I could ask for in a dog. She is well behaved, lovey, energetic when she needs to be, and lazy pretty much the rest of the time. She can hike for 14 miles in a day, or she can curl up under a blanket on the couch and be there all day.

Ever since getting her, I will probably always have a Boston by my side :)

Wishing you nothing but the best,

Bessie

Sonora Newborn Portraits | Amelia

Sonora Newborn Portraits | Amelia

This Sonora Newborn session was such a gorgeous session. The session was indoors and it turned out so beautifully.

We started off with picking out colors, materials, and set ups. I am obsessed with the fall vibe of these pictures. They are so cute, classic, simple, and cozy. Little Amelia seemed to love it too as I was able to get her to smile multiple times. :)

After little Amelia's portraits we transitioned into capturing images of mom, dad, brother, and baby.

We never truly know the love of a parent, until we become parents ourselves.

One of my favorite parts of taking newborn portraits is being able to take pictures of the mom and dad with their new little one. There is so much love in everyone's eyes, it is indescribable. The way they look at each other, the way they gaze at their new little bundle of joy, all of it is beautiful.

Beckham is 4 years old and he is the cutest! He helped me throughout the entire session. We set up the props together, he checked the back of my camera to make sure the photographs looked ok, and he even tried on headbands for me. He is so adorable and so obsessed with his baby sister.  Little Amelia, you are so loved and so protected. Your brother is going to be the best big brother.

Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero. Marc Brown

Talk about the most gorgeous sweet family! This family made taking these newborn portraits a dream. Each and every one is sweet, kind, understanding, patient, and so much more. I loved this session.

This session was so much fun and so beautiful. Thank you so much for allowing me to be your photographer!

Being a newborn photographer is such a blessing and means so much to me. I am so thankful that I am given this opportunity to be able to photograph this special time in a families life.

Wishing you all a beautiful day,

Bessie

Indegeny Reserve Outdoor Newborn Portraits | Delaney

Indegeny Reserve

Outdoor Newborn Portraits | Delaney

When scheduling a newborn session you have to be a little bit flexible when it comes to the time and date. We all know that babies come when they are ready, not when you are ready, and especially not on your 'due date'.

Now, with outdoor sessions you definitely need to be flexible as you want to make sure that the weather is just right in order to work best for the new little one. We definitely don't want them getting cold during their session. With little Delaney, we had to reschedule a couple of times as the weather didn't want to cooperate; however, I am so thankful that we did!

The original plan was to have her newborn portraits taken in Knights Ferry, but ultimately the location changed to Indegeny Reserve and I do have to say that this was an awesome decision.

The portraits came out so amazing!

The session started off with pictures of Delaney's brothers and then all the boys while Delaney was getting comfortable with her new surroundings. Then we were able to get these beautiful pictures when she relaxed and fell asleep.

We ended the session with Mom, Dad, and Delaney after a session filled with a warm autumn breeze, laughter, smiles, and so much goodness.

To Jesse and Haley, thank you so so much for allowing me to be your photographer during this incredibly special time in your families lives!

If you or someone you know is expeciting, I encourage you to truly take a moment and consider scheduling a newborn portrait session. The moment that your new little one is a newborn is a fleeting moment and will be gone in a blink of an eye. These images that come from your session will be around for you to cherish forever.

Wishing you all nothing but beautiful days filled with laughter.

Bridal Couture Magazine Feature | I'm in Print

Bridal Couture Magazine Feature

I'm in a printed magazine!!!

About mid July I received an email from Mira at Bridal Couture Magazine. It was probably one of the best emails a photographer could get. 'I would love to feature your wedding'! Reading these words was nothing but sweet. A thrill came over me knowing that my images were going to be in a printed magazine. Goosebumps ran up and down my arms.

Getting Featured

Being featured in a magazine or blog is no small feat. You see, there are thousands of photographers submitting their images to be featured; however, only a select few actually get the pleasure and joy of being featured, especially in a printed magazine.

Now, one of the requirements to be featured is that you do not share the images on your blog until you know that you were or weren't featured. This was one of the hardest things for me to do. After this wedding I was so incredibly excited that I wanted to share the images with the world; however, I had to find my patience and wait. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

I am on page 45 and 46 of the Bridal Couture Magazine! Can you believe it? How incredibly awesome is that?!!

My emotions are quite high, and I cannot get over how giddy I am about this feature. Thank you so much for Bridal Couture Magazine for featuring this wedding and thank you so much to Skye and Robert for allowing me to be your photographer.

Now that I was able to share this amazing news with you, I will be creating a blog about Skye and Robert's gorgeous wedding. I hope you all had a fantastic week and have a wonderful weekend!

Wishing you all nothing but the very best!

I was beyond excited when Lora asked me to be her photographer! You see, I have known Lora for years. We went to school together! She has moved out of California; however, she wanted to have her engagement portraits taken in Kennedy meadows and I completely understand why! It is gorgeous!

Kennedy Meadows

We began the session meeting up at a cabin in Dardanelle Resort and then headed into Kennedy Meadows. Our first destination was the meadow. It was about a 10 minute walk to get here along a wide dirt road. Once you come over a hill you see this gorgeous meadow with the mountain backdrop. Talk about a photographers dream!

I absolutely love when couples bring their dogs. Not only am I a dog lover, but I just love the dynamic that a dog brings to any session. Meet Tazer. Tazer was such a little diva during the entire session.

I do have to say, Lora and Scott completely rocked their engagement session. These two are so incredibly in love, they made my job easy. Their story is simply beautiful. You see both work in Law Enforcement at the same location. One day, at work, Lora was working on a project and Scott offered to help her with it. They have been in love ever since.

Hwy 108 Sonora Pass

After being in the meadow Lora and Scott wanted to finish their session up on Hwy 108 Sonora Pass with a sunset.

Sunset

The sky did not disappoint. This was the absolute perfect way to end an engagement session! A gorgeous sunset in the high Sierra Nevada mountains. All the heart faced emojis in the world :)

Thank you so much Lora and Scott for letting me be your photographer during this incredibly special time in your lives.

I hope you all enjoyed this gorgeous engagement session. If you are looking to have your engagement portraits taken I would absolutely love to chat. Use this contact form to get in touch and schedule your consultation today.

I was beyond excited to get a phone call about being the photographer for a grandparent and grandchildren session. When it was mentioned, I thought to myself... This is the BEST idea ever!

This session took place in Sanger, CA on an a beautiful farm. The grandchildren were staying with their grandparents for a few weeks out of the summer and this session was meant to document this special time in all of their lives.

For each session, I scope out the area prior to and then determine what would be best for the portraits. My approach for this session was slightly different than most. I wanted to get traditional family portraits while also documenting their time out on the farm. The first spot to start off the session was in the orchard. This made for some beautiful images.

We then moved from the orchard to the backyard to get some more documentary type of images. These 4 little ones were the absolute cutest! They were so much fun and full of life.

If you are looking for to document a special time in your life with beautiful images please send me a message by emailing me or using this contact form.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer vacation!

Dads are truly special people. They really do it all no matter their occupation. At home they are:

Teachers - teaching us right from wrong

Doctors - to fix those skinned up knees

Athletes - to teach us how to throw a ball

Providers, Guidance councilors, therapists, and so much more.

Dads truly are amazing. They sacrifice so much for their family.

Happy Father's Day by Bessie Young

This is my dad. A person that I wouldn't know what to do without. He has been there for me through thick and thin and is always a listening ear. No matter when I talk to him he is always encouraging me and helping me to be a better person. Every once in awhile, out of no where, and on days that I need it the most, I will get a special text with the kindest most motivating words. It is like he knows! :) Dads are truly special and I am so lucky to have this man to call my dad.

Sonora Elementary Graduation 8th Grade Portraits | Abbie

Sonora Elementary Graduation

8th Grade Portraits

Abbie

by Bessie Young Photography

Any graduation day is a big day.... Pre-school graduation, 8th grade graduation, high school graduation, and college graduation. No matter which graduation comes and goes, these days are some of the biggest days of our lives. These are days that we want to remember. These are days that we want to document and these are days that are perfect days for portraits.

Sonora Elementary Graduation day was one of these big days. We began by getting Abbie's hair done, and then taking some Sonora Elementary Graduation 8th grade portraits. These were so so so much fun. Abbie got her first very own kitten for her graduation present and let me tell you these pictures are to die for!

It is amazing how fast time flies. Growing up, I always thought it was just silly when grown ups said something like that. It seems like a year of school never ended and Christmas was always so far away. Since I graduated college, the years have been flying before my eyes and I cannot seem to get it to slow down.

This month Abbie, my oldest niece, graduated 8th grade. I am so incredibly excited for her to start this new adventure; however, I am in a bit of denial that she is already out of elementary school and onto high school. She is such a sweet soul and I can't wait to see the woman that she becomes, but I hope that it comes a little later rather than sooner :)

I had so much fun taking these graduation portraits and of course we had to get one with the family dog Moose!

Sonora Elementary Graduation Portraits by Bessie Young

Abbie, you are such an incredibly special person. Your smile lights up any room you go into and your kindness will fix anyone's bad day. I am so lucky to be your Aunt and can't wait to see all the fun adventures that high school brings.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. If you did don't forget to subscribe to my blog in order to get updates when I post something new. If you are looking at getting your portraits taken please feel free to contact me. I would absolutely love to talk to you... and if you are on the fence about getting your portraits taken you shouldn't be. These moments are fleeting moments. Make sure to document these moments. You, and your family, will cherish these images for generations to come. #existinphotos
