5 Tips To Rock Your Couples Session

Rock Your Couples Session

by Bessie Young Photography

Valentines day is just around the corner and Summer is coming quicker that we realize. With this means engagements and couples portrait sessions! If you have a portrait session planned and aren't positive on what to expect or how to actually make it go well, do not fret! I have 5 tips for you on how to rock your couples session :)

  • Don't Stress Out : If you are stressed it isn't going to be fun for you. Have fun and enjoy yourself. After all this photo session is for you and your family.
  • Wear what you want to wear : Stop worrying about what others wear to their session. Be yourself. These images are to document this special time in your life. If you want to be fancy, be fancy. If you want to be casual then be causal. Ultimately wear whatever makes you feel confident. Wear something that makes you feel beautiful and something that you are comfortable in.
  • Make a day out of it : After all this is your couples session! You took the time to get ready for it, you did your hair and makeup, and you have on an outfit that you feel amazing in. Take the day and enjoy it. Go out to dinner after the session. If you enjoy the day and make it more of a date where the portrait session is part of your day date, then the pictures are going to come out that much better!
  • Be yourself : Don't act the way you feel you should act during a couples portrait session. Be yourself. You want to be able to relate to the images. The best images are when the true emotions come out.
  • Forget that it is a photoshoot: Ok, so this is easier said than done especially if you don't have your pictures taken very often; however, just remember that this photoshoot is for you and your family. You scheduled it for you. This is to document this special time in your life. Just remember that this time is for you.
  • I hope you enjoyed this. If you have any suggestions on how to rock your couples session, or if you have any questions about it, leave a comment below. You just can't deny the beauty of the golden Fall light and two beautiful people in love. This session was taken in Woodward park and I just can't get enough! These two are the absolute cutest! We had so much fun wandering around Woodward Park finding the most beautiful light and laughing the entire way.

I was absolutely thrilled when they asked me. Eric and Nikki are truly the sweetest. We started in the later afternoon in order to get the golden fall light at sunset.

It was amazing and the Fall light never disappoints. Woodward park makes for a beautiful place to have portraits taken due to the variety of scenery within the park. It is just lovely. Thank you both so much for allowing me to be your photographer!Woodward Park Couple Portrait Session by Bessie Young Photography

Have you ever met a couple and you just knew that they were truly in love? Not the say I love you kind of love, but the love that reaches deep down into your soul? The kind of love that lasts...

Skye and Robert have that deep kind of love. You can tell just by the way that they look at each other, their movements, and their smiles. Their love grows deep and has only just began as they are recently engaged!!!

as he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.

The way Robert looks as Skye is the way every girl wishes to be looked at. And the way Skye couldn't stop giggling the entire session is the way every person wants to feel. This couple is too adorable. Their love for each other overflows and brightens everything around them.

but you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

These two have a special place in my heart. Skye and Robert, thank you so much for letting me be your photographer during this special time in your life! It means the world to me.

Wishing you nothing but happiness and love,

    Bessie

In my wedding packages I include an engagement session. After sending my pricing and/or having an initial consultation with a potential client sometimes the question of 'we do not need an engagement session, how much would your price be then?' arises. I completely understand why the question is brought up and that is why this blog post is being created.

An engagement session is something that isn't just a frivolous formality. It matters.

Why you ask? Here are just a few of the many points:

    • This special time is the time before you are married. These pictures are probably the last pictures you will have as a non-married couple.
    • These pictures will show the true essence of your relationship. The engagement session is your style, your location of choice, and just the two of you being in love.
    • These pictures can be used for your save the date cards, to give to family members as thank you gifts, and much more.
    • These are memories that you will be handing down to your children, their children, and their children's children. Photos are meant to last a lifetime. You need to make sure that you take these moments and document them.

However, the engagement session is more than just pretty pictures:

    • The relationship between the photographer and the couple is one of the most important vendor relationship to have. It may sound silly, but it is true. You are hiring your photographer, me, to capture your love. The love between you two is why you are having your wedding after all; therefore, I need to know how you both interact. What your style is, and how you show your love to the world. In order for me to capture your love I need to know you, you need to know me and be comfortable being yourself around me. You won't truly connect with any vendor the way you will connect with your photographer. You shouldn't think of your photographer as someone you are paying to take pictures. Think of the photographer as someone you are hiring to document you, your love, and this very special fleeting moment in your lives

I hope this article helps you really understand the necessity of an engagement session.

Wishing you nothing but the very best!

    Bessie
